Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Targets

Injuries, bye weeks, trade deadline approaching. Make sure you’re getting your team ready for a championship run!

Running Backs

Jonah Coleman - Broncos

Coleman led Denver's backfield with a 49% snap share and 11 touches in Week 7, compared with 26% of snaps for RJ Harvey and 23% for J.K. Dobbins. He just returned from IR and is already leading the rotation in playing time, making him a priority add despite Denver's offensive struggles.

Denver has been awful in terms of efficiency in yards per carry, but Coleman looked great, notching 9 carries for 54 yards and 2 receptions for 15 yards.

Kaelon Black - 49ers

Black handled 13 touches on a 47% snap share while Christian McCaffrey briefly exited with an injury. McCaffrey returned but he was revealed to have suffered a mild hamstring strain. Meanwhile, Black showed he could handle a meaningful workload in his absence. With San Francisco on bye in Week 8, CMC will likely have sufficient time to heal and return in Week 9. However, hamstring injuries have a habit of lingering, so Black is a very high-priority stash. He will likely fall under the radar this week because of the bye, so scoop him up while you can!

Seth McGowan - Colts

McGowan recorded 12 touches in Week 7, backing up Jonathan Taylor. With trade interest heating up around Taylor and the trade deadline (11/10), the seventh-round rookie could become a valuable fantasy asset if Indianapolis moves its starter without acquiring another running back. You're betting on Taylor to get moved, which is very possible given the Colts recently fired Chris Ballard and they are about to blow up and rebuild the team.

Tyler Goodson - Cowboys

Javonte Williams totaled 25 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown on Monday Night Football vs the Eagles. Goodson contributed 10 carries for 38 yards and was the only other running back to log a carry (I'm not counting Luepke's single carry, he's a fullback). Goodson doesn't carry standalone value, but he is a prime insurance policy for one of the league's most dynamic offenses. If Williams ever goes down, Goodson would become a high-end RB2.

Jadarian Price - Seahawks

Price's expected return in Week 8 adds another variable to Seattle's crowded backfield with Emmanuel Wilson and Zach Charbonnet expected back too. With multiple backs competing for touches, his path to fantasy relevance is unclear but the talent is still there and Seattle won't abandon their first round pick so quickly. I'm expecting him to face an uphill battle for consistent work, but he's worth picking up if there is a frustrated fantasy manager out there who dropped him.

Elijah Mitchell - Eagles

Not necessarily a player you have to put a waiver claim on as most fantasy managers will ignore Mitchell, but a player to keep an eye on. He was elevated from the practice squad for the MNF game vs Dallas, and he ended with 6 touches for 34 yards. Most of his playtime came toward the end when both Barkley (hamstring, back) and Pierce (undisclosed) left the game due to injuries.

It’s worth monitoring Barkley and Pierce’s health ahead of this next week, but if even one of them is unavailable then Mitchell would be next man up and would be a decent flex.

Wide Receivers

Omar Cooper Jr. - Jets

Cooper followed his return from injury with 6 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in Week 6, then delivered another big performance in Week 7. He's proving he can produce splash plays, although I doubt the Jets will consistently support multiple huge receiver performances. Target him for upside, not a guaranteed weekly floor.

KC Concepcion - Browns

Concepcion exploded for 8 catches, 129 receiving yards and 23 rushing yards on 10 targets in Week 7. That's 152 total yards and a 23% target share for the season when excluding the game he exited early with a concussion. His established involvement plus this breakout makes him one of my favorite receiver adds.

Ja'Kobi Lane - Ravens

Lane played a season-high 69% of snaps and has received five targets in each of his two games since returning from injury. He also ranked second on Baltimore in targets this week behind Zay Flowers. His role is trending in the right direction, and he'd have additional upside if Flowers missed time. Not to mention, these last two games he's been receiving passes from Snoop Huntley. I expect his ceiling to be higher when Jackson returns under center.

Travis Hunter - Jaguars

I'm betting Hunter's offensive involvement grows as the season progresses. We got a taste of that in Week 6. Also, if Jacksonville trades Thomas, Hunter could benefit from even more opportunities. I love the upside and talent that comes with rostering Hunter for the rest of the season.

Makai Lemon - Eagles

With DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks unavailable, Lemon finally delivered the breakout performance we were waiting for. The key question is whether he can maintain that involvement when the receiving corps gets healthy. If his rapport with McKee continues to develop, this could be the beginning of a useful fantasy role. I know for a fact there are many fantasy managers who dropped him out of frustration, so check to see if he is out there.

Brian Thomas Jr. - Jaguars

Thomas is a talent-based buy-low bet. A trade to a receiver-needy team could give him a fresh start, but there's no guarantee Jacksonville moves him. If you have bench space, I'm willing to stash him before a potential change of scenery improves his outlook.

Tight Ends

Hunter Henry - Patriots

Henry earned seven targets and caught all seven for 71 yards in Week 7, while playing 78% of New England's snaps and running a route on 71% of dropbacks. That's the kind of involvement worth targeting at a position where consistent volume is hard to find. He's a viable option for managers needing tight end help.

Fools Gold: Players I'm Avoiding

Konata Mumpfield - He was expected to play the role of WR2 with Davante Adams sidelined. Against the Raiders, that only resulted in one catch for 15 yards. He played on 43% of snaps and ran 20 routes and left fantasy managers much to be desired. What Sunday reminded us is that Puka Nacua will always be 'the guy' and the leftovers will be spread between the millon tight ends on the Rams' roster.

Brandin Cooks - With Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel sidelined, new signing Brandin Cooks was expected to have a role this week. But that also resulted in just one catch for 13 yards. Christian Kirk didn't even log a catch. The 49ers instead leaned more heavily on Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle. If the name isn't Evans, Kittle, CMC, Black, or Samuel, they're not worth rostering at this point.

Darius Cooper - DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks were out this week, leading many (including myself) to believe Cooper would at least end up as a one-week plug-and-play based on potential volume. That didn't pan out as Makai Lemon ended up as the biggest beneficiary...and even Hollywood Brown ended up getting more looks than Cooper. You can move on if you've rostered him.
